I know the secret to making the easiest, healthiest and most simple hot chocolate mint protein smoothie. It’s not a dream, it’s real. My mint mocha smoothie has no cholesterol, no added sugar and just 4 ingredients.
I’m not lying. I’m serious.
I made this delicious chocolate mint smoothie with the help of Teeccino. Teeccino and I have teamed up again to make another delicious recipe. Instead of using TeeChia to make a smoothie bowl, I’ve created a hot smoothie with an herbal coffee flavor. I used their Mocha Mint Herbal Coffee to make this healthy hot chocolate smoothie.
Before I get into the recipe for my Hot Chocolate Mint Protein Smoothie, I want to share with you the flavors I tried. I was sent three other flavors with their Mocha Mint dandelion herbal coffee:
- Red Chai
**Disclaimer**: I received complimentary samples of Teeccino’s new gluten free dandelion herbal coffee flavors. However, that didn’t influence my opinion of their products. I approached Teeccino because I truly enjoy their herbal coffees and hot cereal.
Out of all the flavors, this was my favorite. I was head over heels for this flavor from the first sip. Heaven in a cup.
The coconut flavor is punchy and prominent—it doesn’t take a back seat. But this drink is more than just coconut flavor. It’s creamy and has other flavorings that add to the complexity of the drink. It reminded me of a sweet red Thai curry. There isn’t much coffee flavor at all in this selection, if any at all.
I spent my time enjoying my warm beverage and pondering how to make it into a recipe. I chose mocha mint over coconut because I was afraid of overpowering the coconut flavor.
Ingredients: roasted organic carob, organic chicory, organic dandelion root, organic dates, organic almonds, organic orange peel, organic coconut, organic figs, natural coconut and orange flavors
Before I even tasted Teeccino’s Red Chai flavor I expected to like it. I wasn’t sure how red chai tasted, but I already enjoyed masala chai (chai tea).
The complex flavors that are traditionally found in (masala) chai tea were also present in Teeccino’s Red Chai. The warming spices were subtle as well as hints of chocolate and coffee.
Ingredients: roasted organic carob, organic rooibos, organic chicory, organic dates, organic dandelion root, organic cinnamon, organic ginger, natural spice flavor, organic cardamom, sweet blackberry leaves, black pepper, cloves
I wasn’t sure what to expect before I tasted Teeccino’s Turmeric Herbal Coffee. Being a turmeric fanatic that added turmeric to every meal I cook, I was excited to try it. But on the other hand, I knew that turmeric by itself tastes unpleasant and bitter.
I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the turmeric herbal coffee. At first the flavor of the carob is strong and the coffee is a secondary flavor. But then it switches. The coffee becomes the dominant flavor and the carob becomes and undertone. The main flavor kept switching between chocolate and coffee.
There’s an indescribable Indian quality from the turmeric in the drink mix. Overall, I’d call the flavor an Indian mocha or Indian mochaccino.
Ingredients: roasted organic carob, organic chicory, organic dandelion root, organic turmeric, organic licorice root, organic ginger, natural coffee flavor
When I was young, I wasn’t always attracted to mint and chocolate pairings. I avoided mint-chocolate chip ice cream but scarfed down Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies. I preferred peanut butter and chocolate instead (hello Reese’s!).
Since visiting Morocco and indulging in an endless supply of sweet mint tea, I’ve come to love mint. Anna, Teeccino’s marketing communications manager, warned me that Teeccino’s Mocha Mint herbal coffee was created to taste like Thin Mints. I was intrigued.
The result? Yes, Teeccino Mocha Mint warm beverages taste like the beverage version of Thin Mints. Neither the chocolate nor the mint flavor is too overpowering. The combination is just right. While the drink is called mocha mint (indicating coffee and chocolate), I didn’t taste any coffee flavor. It was all chocolate and mint.
This flavor was scrumptious. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because the coconut herbal coffee flavor blew my mind.
Ingredients: roasted organic carob, organic chicory, organic dandelion root, organic dates, almonds, natural mocha flavor, organic cocoa powder, peppermint leaf, organic figs, peppermint oil
